Abstract

During the last past years, deep learning, the field of study of artificial neural networks with multiple layers, has had a strong impact on many fields of artificial intelligence, including handwriting recognition. Quantum computation, on the other hand, despite having a history spanning decades, has only very recently been studied for machine learning applications (arguably, for several years only).
 
In this thesis, we provide several contributions from the fields of deep learning and quantum computation to handwriting recognition.
